Jan Kovářík (*1980), a leading sculptor of the younger generation, studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Sculpture 2 Studio of Professor Jindřich Zeithammel. During his studies he also spent two semesters in the Intermedia Studio of Professor Milan Knížák. His artistic practice offers valuable insights into various aspects of sculpture, which the artist has been dealing with for a long time. Kovářík's work emphasizes the processes of manipulation of sculptural material, including those that are newly entering the realm of sculpture. The experimental nature of his work is manifested in "new creations" that show traces of his own material processes and emphasize aspects such as diversity, existential plurality, heterogeneity, genericity and self-similarity. At the same time, there are instances of deliberate mimicry that obscures these traces, including the treatment of surfaces, the infusion of colour and the incorporation of structures and textures into the work. These principles, analogous to natural processes within a laboratory approach, deliberately challenge sculptural assumptions and shape hypotheses.
