Atsuo Hukuda (*1958) uses traditional Japanese painting techniques and materials, such as gold leaf/silver leaf and Japanese urushi lacquer, for his works, where he explores the identity of Japanese art within the concept of "dry/bright/bright/sharp", intervening very sensitively in the given spaces, creating environments filled with silence, almost with a sense of a certain sacredness.
Shuhei Fukuda (*1997) is an art student and Atsu's son. He is currently studying traditional Japanese painting and exploring his own approach to the world using traditional techniques and materials. He is interested in the mutability and relationships of the material and inner worlds within a long-term changing process.
In addition to his artistic work, Atsuo is also the director of Concept Space, an exhibition space in Shibukawa, but most importantly he has been a teacher for many years. The way of teaching in Japan led him to establish his own private art school, where, unlike traditional schools, students and teachers discuss art with each other. It is through the relationship that the idea of "passing on the heritage" of the school - the style - the house, across generations, cultures and disciplines in a broader sense. The relationship between the two artists, father and son, who, by coincidence, chose the same materials for their work, is one form of passing on traditions and skills.
