With its more than thirteen-year history, Kvalitar Gallery is a key place on the map of Prague's contemporary art. The project space is dedicated to research, development, education and promotion of culture through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and partnerships. Two large exhibition rooms located in a 248 square meter Baroque palace allow for a sustained connection between artistic practice and current public issues and global challenges that transcend cultural and geographical specificities.
The exhibition programme thus brought together works by Czech artists with works by international artists such as Sarah Crowner, Federico Diaz, Olafur Eliasson, Hilda Hellstroem, Martino Gamper and Alessandro Mendini. The artists represented by the gallery are both established names of the Czech art scene and emerging talents, united by a yearning for knowledge, a high level of craftsmanship and sophisticated artistic expression, across artistic media.
Thus, the gallery's long-term goal is not only to present artists' works and to promote artistic creation, but also to provoke thought and discussion in the broader society. Therefore, despite its profile as a private gallery with a strong position in the art market and in the field of art investment, the gallery is known for its projects that are more akin to institutional exhibitions in their ambition to promote quality work by artists and to reach out to both the general and professional public. This is also the reason why the gallery's extensive depository is accessible at all times.
In recent years, this has been strongly reflected in the curatorial concept of the Kvalitar gallery, which is based on a synthesis between art and natural sciences such as astronomy, physics and geology. A unique feature of the gallery is also the connection between fine art and art design, which updates the conceptual and contextual frameworks of the contemporary art world. Both of these directions are still new to the visual arts and offer enormous potential for long-term analysis.
